Let shoppers in the Netherlands and Belgium pick a PostNL pickup point in the checkout, track every parcel and print PostNL labels (in beta).

PostNL is the carrier shoppers in the Netherlands and Belgium know. With Pakkeshopper, a PostNL shipping method shows PostNL pickup points in your Shopify checkout, and every PostNL parcel shows up in your tracking dashboard.

What you get with PostNL in Pakkeshopper

  • Pickup points in the checkout. The customer picks a PostNL pickup point from a list or a map, with distance and opening hours. Read more about pickup points.
  • Home delivery. Offer PostNL home delivery as a separate shipping method with its own price and rules.
  • Tracking. Pakkeshopper tracks PostNL parcels. The tracking dashboard shows delivery rate, median transit time, median handover time, exceptions and a list of shipments that need attention. Shopify Flow triggers fire when a parcel is stuck with the carrier, left uncollected or on the way back.
  • Label printing (beta). Print PostNL labels as PDF from one order or in bulk from the orders list. The order is marked as fulfilled with the tracking number in the same step. PostNL labels are in beta, so write to [email protected] if something does not work as expected.

Return labels are not available for PostNL.

Shipping rules that fit PostNL

Pakkeshopper shows or hides a shipping method based on shipping rules. These fit a PostNL setup well:

  • Destination country. Show the method to addresses in the Netherlands and Belgium. Want a different price per country? Duplicate the method with one click and change the country.
  • Weight and order value. Offer pickup point delivery under a weight limit, or free shipping above an order value. Discount codes are deducted before the free shipping threshold applies.
  • Products and customers. Hide the method for products with a certain tag, or show a special rate to customers with a tag.
  • Quantity-based prices. Multiply a price by the number of qualifying items, with an optional cap.

Address validation checks for a house number before the customer can pay. This avoids penalty fees from the carrier.

The Shopify order confirmation page shows the PostNL logo, a delivery status bar and the chosen pickup point with address and opening hours, in 9 languages.

PostNL in your order data

Pakkeshopper writes the carrier, delivery type and pickup point to Shopify order attributes named _pakkeshopper_* and to the shipping line code. Orders flow on to Shipmondo, Peak WMS, Traede, Ongoing, Lagersystem.dk, SmartPack and vShip. The developer guide describes the fields.

Which plan do you need?

PostNL is included from the Pro plan (19 USD per month for 500 orders, then 0.02 USD per extra order). Pro also includes label printing, statistics and API access. Compare plans under pricing.

How to get started

    Install Pakkeshopper and turn on Carrier Calculated Rates

    Install the app from the Shopify App Store. Ask Shopify support to add Carrier Calculated Rates to your store if you do not have the feature yet.

    Add a shipping method with PostNL

    Create a shipping method in the dashboard with PostNL as the carrier, and choose pickup point or home delivery. Add rules for weight, order value and destination country.

    Test the checkout

    Place a test order with a Dutch or Belgian address. Shopify caches rates for up to 24 hours, so change the house number or the cart contents to see fresh rates.
