Most Danish and Nordic shoppers want to collect their parcel at a pickup point near home or work. Shopify cannot show pickup points on its own. Pakkeshopper adds them to the checkout for every carrier you use.
The problem: Shopify shows no pickup points
A plain Shopify checkout gives the customer an address field and a shipping price. The customer cannot see which parcel shop is open tonight or how far away it is. Some stores ask for the pickup point in a note field or in an e-mail after the order. That costs time, and the parcel often ends up at the wrong shop.
What the customer sees in the checkout
When the customer has entered a shipping address, Pakkeshopper shows the nearest pickup points for each shipping method:
- A list of pickup points with name, address, distance and opening hours.
- A map with carrier-branded markers. The customer can tap a point on the map or browse the list.
- Parcel shops, parcel lockers and post offices, depending on the carrier.
The chosen point is saved on the order together with the shipping method.
List mode
List mode lets the buyer pick the pickup point live, directly in the list, as soon as the address is typed.
Map of pickup points
The map shows the nearest pickup points around the shipping address, with the carrier logo as the marker. The customer taps a marker to see the name, address, distance and opening hours, and picks the point directly on the map. The list and the map show the same pickup points, so the customer can use whichever is easier. Carriers shown under a local name, such as Posten in Norway and Posti in Finland, get the local logo on the map too.
Hide parcel lockers and unmanned points
Some stores do not want parcels in lockers. The items may be large or need a signature. Many parcel lockers also stand outdoors, so in winter the parcel can freeze in the box, and some products, such as liquids, cosmetics and plants, cannot handle that. One setting hides parcel lockers and other unmanned locations, so customers are only offered staffed parcel shops.
Which carriers have pickup points
Pakkeshopper shows pickup points from GLS, PostNord, DAO, Bring, DHL, UPS, Budbee, DPD, Helthjem, Hermes and Evri, Posten, Posti, PostNL and Swiss Post. The four carriers that Pakkeshopper also prints labels for directly:
- GLS: GLS Pakkeshop in Denmark, the most common pickup-point carrier for Danish stores.
- PostNord: parcel shops and parcel lockers in Denmark and Sweden.
- DAO: pickup points in Denmark.
- Bring: pickup points in Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Shown as Posten in Norway and as Posti in Finland, with the local logo.
See all carriers and what each one supports in the carrier overview.
Lookups are cached, so the shipping options load fast even when a carrier API is slow.
The order confirmation page
After payment, the Shopify order confirmation page shows the carrier logo, a delivery status bar and the chosen pickup point with address and opening hours. The page is available in 9 languages.
From the checkout to your warehouse system
Pakkeshopper writes the carrier, the delivery type and the chosen pickup point to Shopify order attributes named pakkeshopper* and to the shipping line code. Warehouse systems such as Shipmondo, Peak WMS, Traede, Ongoing, Lagersystem.dk, SmartPack and vShip read these fields, so the pickup point goes on the label without manual work. You can also print labels for GLS, PostNord, DAO and Bring directly from Pakkeshopper. The developer guide lists the exact field names.
How to set it up
- Install Pakkeshopper from the Shopify App Store.
- Create a shipping method in the shipping method editor. Pick the carrier and choose pickup point as the delivery type.
- In Settings, decide whether parcel lockers and other unmanned points should be hidden.
- Test the checkout with a real address. Shopify caches shipping rates for up to 24 hours, so change the house number or the cart contents to get fresh rates.
Which plan includes pickup points
Every plan shows pickup points in the checkout. Starter is free for the first 100 orders per month and includes one carrier. Pro, Max and Enterprise include all carriers. No commitment.
